How often does a commercial installation need testing?
There is no single legal interval, so the recommended maxima in IET Guidance Note 3 are the working standard. Offices, shops and general commercial premises are typically five years. Industrial units are three years. Higher-risk environments — commercial kitchens, laundries, swimming pools, petrol filling stations, agricultural and horticultural premises, and anywhere subject to heat, damp, vibration or corrosive atmospheres — are shorter, often annual. Construction sites are three-monthly. Your insurer or lease may specify a shorter interval than the guidance, and where it does, that is the interval you must meet.
