The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015, as amended in 2022, require a smoke alarm on every storey of a rented property used as living accommodation, and a carbon monoxide alarm in any room used as living accommodation containing a fixed combustion appliance other than a gas cooker. The 2022 amendment extended the duties to social housing and made the repair obligation explicit.
